Woman killed while buying cigarette

MANILA, Philippines - A 22-year-old woman was shot in front of her neighbors while buying a cigarette Tuesday night in Caloocan City.

Probers said Edylene Santos was standing in front of a sari-sari store on Salmon street, Barangay 8 around 10:15 p.m. when she was shot in full view of residents.

However, probers said that no one – not even the store owner – was willing to talk during the investigation and that everyone had an alibi on why they failed to get the gunman and the actual shooting.

Edu Maboto, the victim’s partner, could not believe there were no witnesses to the incident.

Just a few days ago, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the same place during a rumble.

Police have yet to identify the suspect.

A source told The STAR that the killing could be drug-related.

No one, however, was willing to come out and talk for fear of reprisal from the suspect.
