Married lover slays student

MANILA, Philippines -  A 19-year-old student was stabbed dead at her condominium unit in Manila yesterday by her married lover, who allegedly refused to break up with her. 

Jackie Bugay died while being treated at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center (UERMMC). 

Her lover and attacker Joseph Espiritu, 32, slit his throat with the knife he used to stab Bugay. He is recuperating at the same hospital, according to Senior Police Officer 1 Christian Caparas.

Househelp Recil Ramos told police she went to the market at around 5 a.m. and when she returned around four hours later, she heard Bugay shouting in her bedroom but found the condominium unit’s door locked.

She and security guard Espino Reyes, passed through a back door to get to the bedroom, where they found Bugay and Espiritu bleeding.
