Army training for QC residents mulled

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City government is planning to enter into an agreement with the Philippine Army for the conduct of basic military training for 400 residents.

Councilor Anjo Yllana of the fifth district has filed a resolution authorizing Mayor Herbert Bautista to enter into an agreement with the 1,302nd community defense center of the Army Reserve Command to conduct the training for the residents.

“After completion of the special basic citizen’s military training, the 400 qualified volunteers will be enlisted in the reserve force and will be tapped in times of calamities for community service and development,” Yllana said in his proposed measure.

The volunteers will become part of the country’s Reserve Force of the Philippine Army following the training.

Once approved, the proposed resolution will authorize Bautista to sign a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Army.

The measure is up for approval by the city council, which will resume session next month.
