4 killed as truck hits van on Cavitex

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Four people were killed when a truck driver beat a red light and slammed into a van at the intersection of Cavite Expressway (Cavitex), formerly called Coastal Road, and Marina Road in Parañaque City before dawn yesterday.

Truck driver Jerry Mainit and van driver Rodolfo Cajes were killed, Senior Superintendent Ariel Andrade told The STAR.

Two passengers of the van, Jonathan Gabrinao and a still unidentified man, were also killed. Mainit’s helper, Salde Diamante, escaped unhurt.

Investigators said Cajes was turning left toward Marina Road when Mainit, bound for Cavite, “ignored the traffic light” and his truck (license plate RMC-240) ended up ramming the side of the van (license plate VCM-612).

The truck, owned by RMCE Metal Products Trailer, also crashed into the railings of the expressway, ABS-CBN reported.
