Bus driver falls asleep, hits police car

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A bus driver wrecked a parked police car when he fell asleep while cruising along EDSA in Balintawak, Quezon City at past midnight yesterday.

Four policemen who were in the parked patrol car were brought to the hospital for treatment of their injuries, said Superintendent Dionisio Bartolome, commander of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 1.

The driver of Dela Rosa Transport bus (UYE-973), Marcelino Sarito, allegedly fell asleep and rear-ended the patrol car.

Superintendent Ely Pintang, head of the QCPD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit, said the bus operator agreed to shoulder the medical expenses of the injured policemen.

The police car would be brought to the bus firm’s garage for repair.

Because of the settlement, there would no longer be charges to be filed by the police against Sarito and the bus firm.
