Back rider killed in Pasig mishap

MANILA, Philippines - A man who was riding a motorcycle driven by a companion was killed when the motorcycle collided head-on with a truck in Pasig City Sunday.

Renato Caballero, 27, was declared dead on arrival at the Pasig City General Hospital. Ryan Lawas, who was driving the motorcycle, is confined at the same hospital for minor injuries.

Caballero and Lawas were crui-sing along C-6 Road when the Yamaha Sniper motorcycle (XI-9010) they were riding smashed into the Kia Dropside (XAU-911) at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, said Police Officer 2 Gabby Capinpin, deputy spokesperson of the Eastern Police District.

The motorcycle’s registered owner is Imma Pulido.

The two men were thrown from the motorcycle during the collision and Caballero landed on the pavement head first, witnesses said.

The truck’s driver, Ramil Pacunda, 23, escaped unhurt. He surrendered to law enforcers who arrived at the scene. He is being held in jail while charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injury are being readied against him.
