MANILA, Philippines - The city government of Marikina and other local government units (LGUs) are supporting the 1st National Bicycle Day to be held today in the city.
The event, sponsored by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and National Bicycle Organization, aims to reduce air pollution and ease traffic congestion by endorsing non-motorized modes of transportation.
Participants will pass through A. Bonifacio Avenue and Sumulong Highway, turning right to McDonalds Avenue, left to I. Chanyungco street, right to Mayor G. Fernando Avenue, then turn right to Marcos Highway.
“We join our fellow LGUs in supporting the 1st National Bicycle Day. We encourage everyone to choose cycling as an alternative mode of transportation. Not only does bicycle riding help the environment, it also promotes a healthy lifestyle,” Marikina Mayor Del de Guzman said.
Other LGUs supporting the event include San Juan, Manila, Navotas, Malabon, Caloocan, Quezon City, Pasig, Taguig, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Las Pinas, Pasay, Makati, Mandaluyong, Antipolo, Pampanga, Iloilo and Davao.
Government agencies, such as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Department of Public Works and Highways, Philippine National Police, Highway Patrol Group and National Capital Region Police Office have also expressed support for the event.
