2 dead in QC fire
MANILA, Philippines - A woman and her mother died after they were trapped in their burning house in Quezon City yesterday afternoon.
The charred remains of Evangeline Trinidad, 43, and her mother Maria Crecensia, 72, were found on the ground floor of their house after the last flames were put out in the community in Barangay Valencia, said city fire marshall Superintendent Jesus Fernandez.
According to Fernandez, the daughter had reportedly managed to get out of the house but returned for her wheelchair-bound mother.
He said the house was located in the back of the compound, with no exit point as it was cornered by a creek and the firewall of a condominium building.
Twenty-five houses were gutted by the fire that broke out at past 11 a.m. It reached the fourth alarm until the flames were placed under control at past noon.
He said some 50 families were left homeless by the flames that also damaged properties worth around P500,000.
He said the cause of the flames, which started in the house of Elisa Ramos, was electrical in nature.
