MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Navy and the Southern Police District (SPD) are investigating the theft of millions of pesos from the Fort Bonifacio Naval Station in Taguig City Sunday night, officials said yesterday.
Lt. Cmdr. Marineth Domingo, the Navy’s public affairs office chief, said the theft in the Armed Forces of the Philippines Commissary Service (AFPCES) branch at the naval station was discovered Monday morning.
“Initial inquiry showed that huge amount of money was taken from the manager’s vault inside her office. The vault was opened but not forcibly,” Domingo said.
While she could not give the exact amount lost, there were reports that the robbers took off with P10 million stored in the manager’s vault.
Domingo said the roving guards and security personnel “did not notice anything unusual nor did they monitor any unauthorized entry of any individuals in the base premises. It was only that morning (Monday) when the robbery was discovered by an employee.”
She said the SPD was immediately notified of the theft.
