9 hurt in Marikina crash
MANILA, Philippines - At least nine jeepney passengers were hurt when a van collided with the vehicle they were riding in Marikina City yesterday.
The passengers, who suffered minor injuries, were sent home after being treated at a hospital.
Investigators said the van driver, Joseph de Vera, reportedly tried to beat the red light at the intersection of J. Molina and E. Santos streets in Barangay Concepcion Uno at around 3:30 a.m.
The van collided with the Cubao-Parang jeepney driven by Noel Romagosa.
Police officers are investigating reports that De Vera was drunk at the time of the accident.
The jeepney’s operator and driver promised to shoulder the hospital expenses of the injured passengers.
