Group seeks 50-centavo jeepney fare rollback

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A transport group yesterday filed a petition for a 50-centavo fare rollback for jeepneys following the series of oil price reductions in the past weeks.

The group Pasang Masda asked the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to lower the minimum fare from P8.50 to P8.

Obet Martin, Pasang Masda president, urged the LTFRB to immediately act on the petition for a provisional fare cut.

Martin said the minimum fare should be at P8 once diesel prices hit P37 per liter.

Prices of diesel range from P35 to P38.35 per liter based on the latest monitoring of the Department of Energy.

LTFRB chief Winston Ginez, however, said the board would first conduct a hearing before deciding on the fare cut petition.
