100 families left homeless in QC fire

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Properties worth around P500,000 were destroyed by flames that hit a slum community in Quezon City yesterday morning.

Around 100 families were rendered homeless by flames that gutted the community in Barangay Doña Imelda, said city fire marshall Superintendent Jesus Fernandez.

He said the fire broke out at a four-story house owned by Mildred Sanchez at past 7 a.m. and spread to 60 other houses made of light materials.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and managed to put out the flames at around 8:45 a.m. Fernandez said no one was hurt or killed in the incident.

Fernandez said investigators were looking into the possibility that a lighted candle left unattended caused the fire.
