Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – A Baclaran-bound bus caught fire along EDSA in front of a hotel near Roxas Boulevard yesterday morning.

According to Fire Officer 2 Eric Enero of the Pasay fire department, the Valisno Transit bus (TXU-210) caught fire at around 6:24 a.m.

Enero said the bus from Tungko, Fairview was carrying 20 passengers when it caught fire.

Enero said the bus driver and the passengers managed to get off the bus before it was totally consumed by flames.

Initial investigation showed that the fire could have started from the bus’ engine. The bus was not equipped with a fire extinguisher, the fire department said.

Enero said two Bureau of Fire Protection firetrucks and two volunteer firetrucks arrived at the scene and contained the fire. The flames were extinguished by around 6:45 a.m.

Arson investigators, who are still determining the exact cause of the fire, placed the cost of damage at P300,000.
