2 more suspects tagged in QC cop’s ambush
MANILA, Philippines - Two more suspects have been tagged in the ambush that killed a Quezon City Police District (QCPD) official in Quezon City last month, police said yesterday.
Witnesses have implicated Dionisio Teves and Ian Drix Montehermoso in the killing of Chief Inspector Roderick Medrano, chief of operations of the QCPD Station 4, according to QCPD director Senior Superintendent Joel Pagdilao.
Medrano, accompanied by his wife, was driving his two children to school when the ambush happened on Sept. 3 in Barangay Kaligayahan.
His family was unhurt in the attack.
Pagdilao said Teves was allegedly one of the gunmen who repeatedly shot at Medrano.
Montehermoso, on the other hand, was the driver of the black getaway motorcycle used by the suspects, said Chief Inspector Rodel Marcelo, head of the QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.
Marcelo said murder charges have been filed against Teves and Montehermoso before the city prosecutor’s office.
Earlier, police arrested four suspects identified as Joean Marco, Clemente Bersoza, Larry Consolacion and Rodener Necesito, who worked at the Commonwealth Market either as inspectors or collectors.
The four were nabbed following a tip provided by Christian Geronimo whose motorcycle was used in the killing of the police official.
Police said the .45 caliber pistol recovered from Marco was used in three other killings in the city.
Two more suspects remain at large, police said.
Marcelo had earlier said Medrano’s slay was executed for free, with the alleged hired guns agreeing to the job without getting a single penny.
Investigators have yet to determine the motive for the killing, but sources said it might have something to do with Medrano’s dealings as a police officer.
