QC dad eyes helmet regulation

MANILA, Philippines - A Quezon City councilor is pushing for the passage of a measure that will regulate the use of helmets among motorcycle riders to foil motorcycle-riding criminals.

Sixth district Councilor Roger Juan said the city government should require riders to remove their helmets when they stop in any subdivision, village, street or any place where crimes have occurred in the past.

If approved, the ordinance will set a penalty ranging from P3,000 to one year  in prison for those who will not remove their helmets when they stop at these areas.

The measure is pending before the city council.

Meanwhile, a special review committee of the city council is looking into a barangay ordinance that prohibits the use of tinted helmets in village roads and streets.

Last month, the Barangay Commonwealth council approved a measure that will penalize riders who will wear tinted helmets in barangay roads and streets.

The barangay ordinance will take effect only after the approval of the city council. – Janvic Mateo
