MMDA launches accident alert app
MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday launched an app that gives motorists real time updates on accidents along major thoroughfares in the metropolis.
“Motorists and commuters will now be informed of vehicular accidents along major roads through this application. As such, they can plan their travel accordingly and avoid routes where accidents occur,” MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said.
The MMDA Accident Alerts is initially available for Android-powered phones.
“It will be available for iPhones and iOS platform soon. This application will be useful in decongesting our roads as the motorists can plan their trips effectively,” Tolentino said.
He said the app also provides information on flooded streets and ongoing reblocking projects of the MMDA.
The areas covered by the app will be based on the MMDA Traffic Navigator set-up and will be updated every hour, Tolentino said.
The MMDA chief said the app would rely primarily on closed-circuit television cameras located in strategic areas in Metro Manila as well as reports sent in by traffic enforcers and field personnel from places where there are no CCTV cameras.
Some of the areas covered by the app are EDSA, C-5 Road, SLEX, Roxas Boulevard, Quezon Avenue, España Avenue, Ortigas Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue and Marcos Highway.
