Makati cop kills alleged robber in shootout

MANILA, Philippines -  A Makati City policeman shot dead a man who robbed two passengers of a Guadalupe-bound jeepney at past midnight yesterday.

Suspect Michael Angelo Khan, 25, of Barangay Batasan, Quezon City, died on arrival at the Ospital ng Makati, according to city police chief Senior Superintendent Manuel Lukban.

Investigators said Khan robbed passengers Stephanie Ann Acorda and Renz Cayacap as the jeepney they were riding near the corner of J.P. Rizal and Kakarong streets in Barangay Olympia just before 1 a.m.

Acorda and Cayacap alighted from the jeepney and sought the help of members of the neighborhood watch, who were accompanied by Police Officer 3 Carmelito Valiente.

Investigators said Valiente pursued Khan, who engaged him in a shootout. The victims’ valuables were recovered.
