Traffic enforcer faces assault rap

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  A traffic enforcer is facing charges for allegedly beating up a bus driver in Malate, Manila last week.

Andrique Vidal, 40, went to the Manila Police District (MPD) general assignment and investigation section yesterday to file a complaint against the suspect identified only as “Racab.”

Racab is said to be a member of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau.

Vidal told Senior Police Officer 2 John Cayetano that he was driving along Remedios street at around 2:30 p.m. last Wednesday when the suspect stopped him and asked for his driver’s license.

“I asked him what was my violation and he said he just wanted to see my license,” the driver said in Filipino.

When Vidal refused to yield his license, Racab grabbed his key and sprayed tear gas on his face.

The victim said he managed to run away and sought treatment at the Quezon City General Hospital.
