Japanese commits suicide
MANILA, Philippines - A 70-year-old Japanese man committed suicide at a firing range in Manila Tuesday afternoon.
Police said Sugaya Shiuo shot himself inside the Shooter’s firing range along Alhambra street in Ermita at around 2:30 p.m.
Sugaya was declared dead on arrival at the Manila Doctors Hospital.
The Japanese had just arrived in the country and checked into the Executive Plaza on Mabini street at around 8 p.m. Monday, said Police Officer 2 Crispino Ocampo of the Manila Police District homicide section.
The following day, Sugaya reportedly asked his tourist guide to accompany him to a money changer shop before taking him to the firing range.
The guide said the Japanese rented a .45 caliber handgun. But instead of firing at the target board, he placed the barrel of the gun to his mouth and fired.
Police said the incident was recorded on a closed-circuit TV inside the establishment.
