Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City policemen have returned to the rightful owner three checks for P1.7 million they found at a checkpoint this week.

The checks were found by policemen manning a checkpoint at the corner of Scout Santiago street and Roces Avenue in Barangay Laging Handa last Thursday, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano said.

Police Officer 3 Raul Ramos and Police Officer 1 Marcelo Macairan were conducting the checkpoint when they noticed a brown envelope on the sidewalk.

Ramos picked up the envelope and discovered that three checks, together with company documents, were inside.

The checks had a total value of P1, 767,703.79.

Ramos and Macairan turned over the checks to their commander, Superintendent Lemuel Obon, who immediately contacted the number written on the documents found with the checks.

Angelo Alano, a credit and collection assistant for the company, proceeded to the QCPD Station 10 in Kamuning where the checks were turned over to him. He expressed his appreciation for the good deed of the policemen.

Albano commended the policemen. He said their honesty was worthy of emulation.
