Truck hits bikers in Manila; 1 dead, 1 hurt

MANILA, Philippines - The driver of a 10-wheeler truck lost control of the vehicle in Sta. Ana, Manila Saturday afternoon and hit two men on separate motorcycles, killing one and injuring the other.

Alvin Masangkaway, 42, died on the scene from head injuries while John Erwin dela Cruz was injured but reported to be out of danger, police said.

According to the Manila Police District’s traffic enforcement unit, Alfredo Canedo, 52, lost control of the truck at the corner of New Panaderos and San Roque streets at around 3 p.m. and hit the two men as well as a parked armored van.

Canedo is under investigation and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, police said.
