Criminology students arrested at checkpoint

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Two men, who claimed to be students from the Philippine College of Criminology, were arrested after they allegedly “arrogantly” questioned the legality of a police checkpoint in Manila yesterday morning.

Police officers flagged down Edgar Malvar, 22, and Richard Diotay, 27, at the corner of C.M. Recto and Quezon Boulevard for not wearing helmets while riding a motorcycle.

Instead of yielding, the students questioned the authority of the police officers, who took them to the Manila Police District’s general assignment and investigation section. Investigators found that neither of the men has a driver’s license.

Police Officer 3 Rodel Benitez, who handled the case, said the students were not even police officers yet but show “a bad attitude that would be inimical to the service.”
