MANILA, Philippines - A man was injured as flames razed a shantytown in Quezon City yesterday morning.

Ramil Medrozo suffered a laceration on his right foot as he and neighbors scrambled to salvage belongings while flames razed their homes in Barangay Holy Spirit, said city fire marshal Superintendent Jesus Fernandez.

According to Fernandez, a liquefied petroleum gas stove, left unattended at the house of Andres Bermejo, was the cause of the fire.

The flames were first reported at around 5:13 a.m. and reached the third alarm before it was put out a few minutes before 6 a.m.

The flames quickly spread to other shanties homes, damaging properties worth P150,000, Fernandez said.

According to Fernandez, 15 families were left homeless by the fire.
