Dead toddler identified

MANILA, Philippines - A toddler whose body was found under a parked passenger jeepney in San Juan last Friday has been identified, an official said yesterday.

Geralyn Cortez, 11 months old, was identified by her parents, Ariel and Geraldine, who went to the San Juan police Saturday, according to officer-in-charge Superintendent Jose Rivera.

Rivera said they are still trying to find out why Geralyn was left unattended. He said a closed-circuit television video showed a man walking near the jeepney while carrying the girl at around 3 a.m. Friday.

The girl was found naked from the waist down and her genitals bore lacerations, Rivera said.
