Cops dare firm to produce gun-toting SUV driver

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) dared Primex Development Corp. yesterday to produce both suspects – the one being tagged by the victim and the one being volunteered by the real estate firm – in the EDSA road rage incident.

Despite the company's move to identify Emerson Tan as the one driving the sport utility vehicle (SUV) at the time of the incident, taxi driver Glen Remetio maintained he was sure Karlvin Ernest Ang – the one he charged before the fiscal – was the one who threatened him with a gun.

A video of the incident has gone viral on the Internet.

In an interview aired on GMA-7 yesterday, Tan admitted drawing the gun on Remetio after the taxi driver reportedly cut into his lane twice.

Ang, on the other hand, denied driving the SUV. He is Primex’s corporate secretary and a director of the company.

The two men have yet to appear before the QCPD.

Senior Inspector Virgilio Carodan said Remetio saw the photo of Tan in news reports after the company claimed he was the one driving the Mercedez Benz tagged in the incident, but he was not the one with whom he had an altercation.

Carodan said the company should just produce both men and have the taxi driver identify the real suspect.

A lawyer for the company went to the QCPD Station 7 on Wednesday afternoon just as Carodan accompanied Remetio in filing the cases for physical injury, malicious mischief and grave threats were filed against Ang.

The lawyer, who was pointing to Tan, eventually left and did not leave any official record with the police. As of yesterday, no representative for the company returned to the police station, Carodan said.

Primex, which holds office in Greenhills, San Juan, was found to be the registered owner of the Benz driven by the gun-wielding man in the incident at the EDSA-Santolan flyover last July 25, investigators said.

According to Carodan, the company had initially refused to name the driver of the SUV at the time the gun-toting incident happened.
