MANILA, Philippines - Ten informants received a total of P5.8 million in cash rewards from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency during its 12th anniversary yesterday.
A PDEA asset with the alias Wild Cat received the biggest reward of P2 million.
He provided information that resulted in the seizure of 24 kilos of ephedrine and 27.5 kilos of shabu in Parañaque City on Feb. 12.
Another informant, alias Spartacus, took home more than P1 million after providing information that led to the confiscation of 17.48 kilos of shabu and the arrest of two drug personalities during an anti-narcotics operation at the Zamboanga International Airport on Nov. 8.
PDEA chief Arturo Cacdac Jr. said the informants helped them in arresting several high-value drug personalities and foreign drug traffickers.
The Private Eye Rewards Committee, composed of members from the academe, non-government organizations, law enforcement, religious and business sectors, had approved a resolution granting P5.8 million monetary rewards to the informants.
Cacdac said Operation Private Eye is an incentive scheme of the agency designed to encourage the citizenry to report drug suspects in their community.
