Mandaluyong jail to get new CCTV
MANILA, Philippines - Mandaluyong Mayor Benjamin Abalos Jr. yesterday said a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera will be installed inside the city police station’s jail to prevent escapes.
Eleven inmates bolted the police jail on July 21 by destroying the iron grills of the window of the toilet behind their cell. Four of the detainees – Archie Pacheco, Gabby Capistrano, Nelson Yambao and Albert Llaneta – have been recaptured, city police chief Senior Superintendent Tyrone Masigon said.
Masigon said the seven other escapees are still being hunted by the police.
A CCTV camera located at the lobby of the police station failed to capture the escaping inmates on video.
“Investigators are reviewing footage from the CCTV camera to gather evidence against the wife of one of the inmates who allegedly helped them escape,” said Jimmy Isidro, city public information officer.
Abalos had earlier ordered the engineering department to conduct repairs in the police station’s detention cell to prevent inmates from escaping.
