Store clerk throws wood at robbers, foils heist

MANILA, Philippines - A clerk foiled a robbery at a store in Valenzuela City Friday by throwing a slab of wood at the robbers.

Marlon Imus, 22, an employee of Al-Sof store on Santolan Road, Gen. T. de Leon, told police that one of the robbers entered the store and ordered pork cracklings or chicharon at around 2:30 a.m.

While Imus was filling the order, two men armed with guns entered the store.

Imus said he was so startled that he threw the slab of wood he was holding at one of the robbers, prompting the man to shoot him.

Although wounded, the victim ran out of the store and shouted for help.

The suspects escaped when they saw several men rushing to Imus’ aid.

The victim was taken to the Valenzuela General Hospital.
