2 students killed in drunken joyride
MANILA, Philippines - Two female college students died, while another one was in critical condition after their motorcycle crashed during a joyride along Ayala Bridge Thursday night.
The victims were drunk when the accident happened at about 11 p.m., according to investigators, who identified the fatalities as Sheranebeth Ocampo, 20, of Philippine College of Health and Science Inc., and Jenee Anne Lingal , 20, of National Teachers College (NTC).
Jane Margarita Lastrollo, 21, also of NTC, was rushed to the Philippine General Hospital, where she remains confined.
Senior Police Officer 1 Bert Francisco said Ocampo was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle (6066-HZ), with Lingal and Lastrollo as back riders.
None of them wore helmets, investigators said.
They were headed down the eastbound lane of the bridge when Ocampo hit the gutter and lost control.
The impact was so strong that Ocampo, Lingal and Lastrollo fell off the motorcycle and hit their heads on the gutter, Francisco said.
“The police officers who responded to the accident saw that one of the women was still breathing so they rushed her to the hospital,” he said.
