MANILA, Philippines - Two restaurant employees who had just lost their jobs were seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident along Roxas Boulevard in Malate, Manila before dawn yesterday.

Valerie Aniel, 27 and Kelvin Principu, 20 were taken to the Philippine General Hospital. Principu was declared safe, while Aniel remains in critical condition as her head and legs were badly hit.

They were drunk when the accident happened, according to Principu.

They decided to drink because their contracts with a restaurant in a mall along Adriatico street lapsed on Friday night.

According to Philippine Red Cross volunteers, the two were walking in front of Cultural Center of the Philippines on the southbound lane of the boulevard, when they were hit by a white Toyota Crown (plate number TEJ-967), whose driver then sped away.
