QCPD detainees fail escape try

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Detainees at a police station in Quezon City attempted to bolt amid a heavy downpour before dawn yesterday.

The detainees reportedly destroyed the exhaust fan and attempted to escape through its window, prompting Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano to order the closing off of exhaust windows in all detention cells of the QCPD.

Albano said these were not needed since air could pass through the iron bars in front of the detention cells.

Superintendent Ariel Capocao, commander of the QCPD Station 3, said there were about 20 detainees inside the cell at that time.

The detainees allegedly destroyed the exhaust fan amid heavy rains at around 2 a.m. yesterday. A police sentinel, however, managed to notice the already detached exhaust fan, foiling what was believed to be an escape try.

The detainees were temporarily brought to an adjacent cell for female detainees as the hole on the wall was being closed off.
