Ex-cop, wanted for robbing tourists, turns to locals

MANILA, Philippines - A former Manila policeman, wanted for robbing tourists in Malate, is now targeting locals, investigators said yesterday.

Reggie Dominguez reportedly robbed a businesswoman, Medy de Jesus, 42, a resident of Pasay City, Saturday morning.

De Jesus told investigators at the Manila Police District (MPD) general assignment section that Dominguez had two accomplices. She named one as Police Officer 1 Vincent Paul Medina but failed to identify the second man.

She said she was walking along Alonzo street in Malate when the suspects, who were riding a silver Toyota Revo with plate number XEX-636, accosted her and took her valuables.

Dominguez was also identified as a suspect in the robbery of a Kuwaiti businessman, Kassem Ghobris, 39, last June 21.

On June 17, Japanese tourist Yamuo Nabazaki, 74, told investigators he was drinking beer outside a convenience store in Malate when Dominguez accosted him at around 11:30 p.m. for illegally drinking on the street.

Dominguez allegedly forced Yamazaki to board his Toyota Revo, whose plate number he said was XLX-636 and robbed him of P6,000 and 30,000 yen.

Dominguez’s last assignment was with the MPD Station 9, which covers the Ermita area, before he was dismissed in 2012 over charges of robbery and usurpation of authority.

Dominguez, who has a pending warrant for robbery and illegal possession of firearms, was also charged with robbery with homicide in February for allegedly shooting a Filipino man after taking his gold bracelet in Paco last year.

Despite being tagged in the robberies, the MPD has failed to locate and apprehend Dominguez.
