2 cabbies arrested for robbing Koreans

MANILA, Philippines - Two taxi drivers were arrested after they robbed two Koreans of P115,000 worth of cash and personal belongings in San Juan City yesterday.

Police said Jumar Vallaso, 28, and Rolando Ballasa, 23, both of MGE Transport Corp. did not resist arrest when cornered along Seminary Road at around 4 a.m.

Policemen recovered from the suspects the victims’ backpack containing $140, 30,000 Korean won, P1,290 cash and other valuables.

Reports said Seong Ryeol Choi, 26, and Jason Jung flagged down the taxi driven by Ballasa in Greenhills.

After the backpack was placed inside the cab, Ballasa sped off before the two Koreans could take their seat.

The victims shouted for help, attracting the attention of a passing mobile car that chased the suspects.

Charges of robbery are being readied against the two suspects who are detained at the San Juan police jail.
