Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Makati City government has collected around 109 tons of trash from the city’s waterways during a cleanup campaign conducted during the first five months of the year.

In a report to Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay, environmental service chief Danilo Villas said the cleanup covered 31,260 linear meters of waterways traversing 21 barangays.

Villas said most of the 108,980 kilos of trash cleared from creeks and canals were dried leaves, paper, plastic bottles, tarpaulin banners, aluminum cans, used clothes and shoes and wiring materials.
