28 more OFWs back from Libya

MANILA, Philippines - Twenty-eight more overseas Filipino workers from Libya were expected to arrive in Manila yesterday afternoon, bringing the total number of repatriated OFWs from the strife-torn country to 117, the Departmentr of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

The Filipino workers were scheduled to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 at 4:35 p.m.

They are employed in Doosan Heavy Industries Cons-truction, Hyundai E&C Al Khalij Power Plant Project and Mafaza Free Zone Co., according to a DFA report.

The DFA said a total of 345 OFWs in Libya are expected to arrive in the country in the coming days. Libya remains under Crisis Alert Level 3.

The DFA recently approved travel exemptions that would allow OFWs with existing and valid contracts to return to Libya.

“They may coordinate with the POEA (Philippine Overseas Employment Administration) and with their employers for the guidelines,” the DFA said.

The DFA urged OFWs who want to return home to contact the Philippine embassy in Tripoli and avail themselves of the government’s voluntary repatriation program.
