Woman kills self in front of husband

MANILA, Philippines - A woman shot herself in front of her husband in Novaliches, Quezon City on Tuesday night.

Mary Jane Tiu, 35, succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head at the Far Eastern University Hospital, said Chief Inspector Rodelio Marcelo, head of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.

Marcelo said Mary Jane committed suicide in front of her husband, Mitoschelo Jude Tiu, at past 10 p.m. inside the couple’s house in Greenfields Subdivision.

Prior to this, police said the victim’s brother-in-law was asked by the couple to leave so they could talk about their personal issues.

The brother-in-law then heard Mary Jane asking forgiveness from her husband, said Inspector Elmer Monsalve.

He rushed back to the house when he heard a gunshot and found Mary Jane bloodied and slumped on the floor. Tiu was sitting on a chair.

Monsalve said they asked the victim’s husband to undergo a paraffin test to erase any suspicion of foul play.
