MANILA, Philippines - A Filipino-Chinese businessman was gunned down by a motorcycle-riding assailant while he was driving his sport utility vehicle (SUV) near a busy intersection in Malate, Manila Thursday night.

Jason Chua, a resident of Golden Empire Building in Ermita, had stopped his Range Rover with conduction sticker number XI 055 for a red light at the corner of Pablo Ocampo and A. Mabini streets when the assailant drove his motorcycle near the driver’s side of Chua’s car, according to the Manila Police District’s homicide section.

When the traffic light turned green, the assailant pulled out his gun, fired four shots at Chua, then sped away toward Taft Avenue.

Chua died on the scene. Witnesses said the gunman’s motorbike had no license plates.
