Lineman shot while disconnecting ‘jumpers’

MANILA, Philippines - A Manila Electric Corp. (Meralco) lineman was shot several times while he was disconnecting illegal power connections knows as “jumpers” in Port Area, Manila yesterday morning.

Jobelyn Salazar, 35, fell off a staircase after bullets hit his arm. He was rushed to Manila Doctors Hospital, where physicians declared him in stable condition.  

Superintendent Rolando Macapas, commander of Manila Police District (MPD) Station 5, said Salazar was tasked to disconnect illegally installed lines along 13th street in Port Area. 

He was accompanied by three police officers when he was shot at about 8 a.m. MPD Special Weapons and Tactics personnel are conducting follow-up operations to catch the assailants, Macapas said.
