QC ‘spree killers’ tied to 2 other shootings

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The gun used in a killing spree in Fairview, Quezon City last week was also used in at least two other shootings in the same area last year, police said yesterday.

Chief Inspector Rodelio Marcelo, head of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said cross-matching of the 9mm shells recovered in the latest shootings revealed that it came from the same gun used in at least two other killings.

“The results prove that the group of Walad Sandigan and the arrested Alsaid Mindalano is behind the other random shootings in that area,” said Marcelo, referring to incidents that resulted in the death of car salesman Mark Matthew Alvarez and jeepney driver Alexander Galvez.

Alvarez, 27, was shot dead at a gas station at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Atherton street on Nov. 23, 2013.

Meanwhile, Galvez, 42, died on the spot after he was shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen near the Fairview Central Market on Commonwealth Avenue on Oct. 13, 2013.

Four people – Rodelio dela Cruz, 34; cousins Gilmer Gabronino, 35, and Angelie Auguis, 35; and businesswoman Alodia Grace Go, 37 – died in the May 11 shooting spree by two men on a motorcycle.

Six people – including Mindalano, the alleged motorcycle driver – were arrested by the police following the incident. Sandigan, the alleged gunman, remains at large.

With this development, Marcelo said additional charges will be filed against the suspects.
