Carjackers abandon pickup in QC

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Carjackers abandoned a pickup, which they had stolen in Manila, in Quezon City yesterday after they were chased and shot at by police officers.

According to police reports, two unidentified men carjacked the black Toyota Hi-Lux (plate number YDO-899) owned by overseas worker Vitaliano Igris in Sampaloc, Manila.

Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau personnel chased the carjackers until they saw police officers from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on patrol along España Boulevard and told them of the fleeing carjackers.

The NCRPO police officers tried to flag down the driver, but the latter allegedly started shooting, prompting the lawmen to retaliate as the driver sped off toward Mabuhay Rotonda.

The carjackers also hit a Toyota Vios before abandoning the pickup – which by then had flat tires – at the corner of Cordillera and Bayani streets in Barangay Don Manuel, Quezon City at past 8 a.m., said Superintendent Victor Pagulayan, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 11.
