Bus runs over fallen motorcycle rider

MANILA, Philippines - A woman was killed when she fell off the motorcycle she was riding and was run over by a bus in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.

Marife Espartero, 34, died of severe head injuries following the accident along Belfast Avenue in Barangay Pasong Putik.

Inspector Marlon Meman said Espartero’s companion, Mary Joy Socorro, 21, sustained foot injuries.

Meman said Socorro was driving the motorcycle with Espartero riding behind her. As they passed the Mary the Queen parish church, they lost their balance and toppled over.

Mayamy bus driver Felipe Estrada, whose vehicle was behind the motorcycle, was unable to avoid Espartero. Meman said Estrada is now in police custody and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries.
