P200 fare discount for Leyte, E. Samar travelers lauded

MANILA, Philippines - Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino yesterday lauded the decision of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approving his request to grant a P200 fare discount for passengers going to and from Leyte and Eastern Samar this Holy Week.

He said LTFRB chief Winston Ginez has ordered bus operators to give passengers going to and from areas devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda a 20 percent fare cut from April 16 to April 21.

“I am grateful to the LTFRB and the provincial bus operators for granting my request. The P200 discount is a big help to passengers going to and from Leyte and Eastern Samar, particularly during this time of their recovery,” Tolentino said. “This goes to show that the bus operators are also considerate.”

“This Lenten season is the best time for Yolanda victims to be with their families, and to reflect on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ after the tragedy that befell them,” the MMDA chief said.

Ginez, for his part, commended Tolentino for his initiative to help the typhoon victims.
