Man holds 2 sons hostage in Malabon

MANILA, Philippines - A 30-year-old man took his two sons hostage after they reportedly refused to read the Koran in Malabon City Saturday night.

According to reports, Jojo Mariano ordered Michael, 11, and John Lloyd, two, to read the Koran in their house on Katapatan street at around 11 p.m., but the boys refused and started crying.

One of their aunts approached the boys but Mariano became angry and threatened his children. The aunt called the police.

Seeing what happened, an aunt approached the boys but Mariano got mad and threatened his children.

Mariano surrendered to the police officers who responded to the scene two hours after taking his sons hostage.
