Man tries to jump into QC tunnel

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel rescued a man who attempted to jump into the EDSA-Quezon Avenue tunnel in Quezon City yesterday.

Traffic at the tunnel was affected after a man – identified as jeepney and taxi dispatcher Fernan Salas – climbed onto tunnel beams, which are at street level, around 9 a.m.

Reports said Salas attempted to jump into the tunnel following his separation from his wife. He asked to see his wife and parents during negotiations with members of the BFP’s Special Rescue Unit.

Salas was rescued when he fell onto a safety cushion placed in the tunnel as he was negotiating with BFP personnel.

The Metro Manila Development Authority said in a Twitter post that the area was cleared as of 11:32 a.m.
