QC asks Congress, DepEd for more public schools

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City council has passed separate resolutions asking the Congress and the Department of Education (DepEd) to establish two more national public high schools in the city.

Sixth district Councilor Melencio Castelo introduced the two resolutions, which sought the creation of public high schools in Barangays Pasong Tamo and Apolonio Samson.

The city council asked the Congress to enact a bill that would mandate the creation of a new public high school in Pasong Tamo.

It also urged DepEd in the separate resolution to implement Republic Act 9670, approved in 2009, which mandates the creation of a public high school in Apolonio Samson.

The council said that the city gives priority to students who are in the public schools, noting that one of the advocates of the current city government is to provide knowledge by putting up additional public schools.

The city council pledged to allot funds to provide necessary facilities for the requested public schools.

Based on records, Congress approved in 2009 Republic Act 9670 for the creation of a national public high school that will be known as Apolonio Samson National High School.
