Cabbie won’t press raps vs UST student

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The taxi driver held up by a student of the University of Sto. Tomas has decided not to press charges against the teenager.

Ronaldo Quintero submitted an affidavit, saying he would no longer file robbery charges against 19-year-old Emman Paul Bonita, according to Superintendent Ramon Pranada, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 7.

Police said Quintero did not appear during the inquest proceedings following Monday’s robbery.

Pranada said Bonita’s mother begged the cabbie not to press charges against her son.

The student had told police he lost P3,000 in cash after playing an online gambling game before the robbery.

Bonita, a nursing student at UST, boarded the cab in Manila, where he also rents a unit.

When the cab reached Barangay Horseshoe in Quezon City, the student declared the heist, threatening the cabbie with a kitchen knife.

Quintero ran after Bonita as he tried to flee, catching the attention of patrolling policemen, who arrested the suspect.
