Man hangs self from center island tree

MANILA, Philippines - A man took his own life by hanging himself from a tree at the center island of a major road in Quezon City yesterday morning.

The body of Roger Amores, 23, was found by his partner, Mary Grace Maceda, at around 4 a.m., said Police Officer 2 Anthony Tejerero.

The tree stands on a center island along Araneta Avenue in Barangay Siena.

Maceda told police she awoke and found Amores no longer beside her. She looked out of their makeshift house – a covered pushcart – and saw her partner hanging from the tree.

Upon seeing Amores’ body, the woman immediately called the attention of village authorities. It was not clear yet why Amores committed suicide, Tejerero said.
