MANILA, Philippines - There are no jobs available for worm pickers in Canada, the Philippine Overseas Employment (POEA) reported yesterday.
POEA chief Hans Cacdac said two recruitment companies based in Taiwan and Canada have victimized a number of aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) by offering them non-existent jobs as worm pickers.
Citing a report from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO), Cacdac said Metrix Recruitment and GERS Global collected $10,000 each from a group of Filipino workers employed in Taiwan as placement fee for a job in Canada.
“The OFWs arrived in Canada only to find out that there were no jobs as worm pickers waiting for them,†he said.
