Drunk driver hurt in Marikina accident

MANILA, Philippines - A drunk motorist was hurt when he reportedly fell asleep while driving, crashing his owner-type jeep into a lamppost in Marikina City yesterday.

Ricky Santos was bleeding from the mouth and complaining of stomach and chest pain when bystanders rescued him from the wreckage of his vehicle along J.P. Rizal street in Barangay Concepcion Uno, said city police chief Superintendent Reynaldo Jagmis.

Aristotle Felicilda, executive officer of village watchmen in Barangay Concepcion Uno said the front portion of Santos’ jeep was destroyed.

“He (Santos) smelled of liquor. He could have dozed off while driving and his vehicle rammed into the electric post,” Felicilda said.

Santos is confined at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center.
