Woman dies in Makati fire

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 25-year-old woman was killed in a fire that struck a residential compound in Barangay South Cembo, Makati yesterday.

House helper Christine Zea was trapped in her room at 4040 Gen. Jacinto street, where the fire also reportedly started, Senior Inspector Tito Purgatoryo said.

The fire started at past 3 a.m., caused by an overheated wall fan, Purgatoryo said, citing an initial investigation report.

The fire soon swept through the seven houses of the compound and reached fourth alarm before it was put out less than an hour later.

The blaze left P3 million worth in damages and seven families homeless.
